Rotator Cuff Syndrome

Rotator Cuff Syndrome

Shoulder pain is most often caused by the rotator cuff. If you experience difficulty putting on a jacket or washing your hair, it is likely a rotator cuff issue. Many athletes with shoulder injuries are victims of a rotator cuff issue. Though the pain may seem unbearable, there are several non-surgical methods to relief.

How & Why Does Rotator Cuff Syndrome Develop?

The rotator cuff is comprised of four muscles and tendons in the shoulder. Pain in this region can be caused by:

  • Shoulder dislocation
  • Too much repetitive movement
  • Abnormal shoulder structure
  • Aging

You may be developing rotator cuff syndrome if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Pain or discomfort when raising the arm over the head
  • Pain through the elbow but not into the hand
  • Tenderness or weakness
  • Reduced motion

Diagnosis

For a proper and complete diagnosis, visit a specialized pain management doctor. Since rotator cuff syndrome presents very similarly to other shoulder issues, a professional should examine you to determine the exact cause of your pain. You will receive a thorough evaluation, which may include a review of your medical history, physical examinations, and tests such as x-rays or MRIs.

Possible Treatments

If you are diagnosed with rotator cuff syndrome, there are several treatment options to consider. Two of the most common are:

Joint Injections

Anti-inflammatories and numbing agents can be injected into the site to temporarily relieve pressure and pain.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

After blood is drawn, platelets are separated from the blood and go through a process called centrifugation, which increases their concentration. The platelets are then combined with the remaining blood and readministered.

I’ve had terrible migraines for as long as I can remember, and nothing seemed to work. A friend of mine turned me on to Dr. Mantena and I’m so grateful she did. It’s been almost two months, and I haven’t had even one migraine in that time. I was getting them every week before, so this is amazing. A big thanks to Dr. Mantena
