Neuroma Injection
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic condition that can impact all parts of the body. CRPS can develop regardless of the scope of your injury. CRPS patients often develop neuromas, abnormal nerve clusters that generate near a nerve injury and cause constant pain and discomfort. Doctors aren’t sure why neuromas develop, and they seem to appear months or even years after the injury. Often, the skin is warmer and the area is painful to touch. Neuroma injections are a treatment option taken by many.
What is Neuroma Injection?
A neuroma injection mimics other anti-inflammatory injections by blocking pain signals heading from the nerve to the brain. Besides pain relief, other benefits can include improved mobility and decreased sweating, swelling, and skin discoloration. Neuromas are usually found by physical examinations or imaging modalities, and we are often able to find them again by performing an ultrasound in our office
When Will I Feel Better?
Neuroma injections are very successful in relieving pain caused by CRPS. After the day of your injection, you should be ready to resume your daily activities. The main symptom to be aware of is soreness at the injection site. The injection starts taking effect a few days after the procedure.
